Mincor’s 100%-owned Cassini deposit is a greenfields discovery and the flagship mine within the DFS. The recently released (March 2020) Maiden Ore Reserve totals 1.05Mt of ore at 3.3% Ni for 34,300t of contained nickel.
Cassini is situated in the Southern Goldfields region of Western Australia (WA), approximately 60km south of the Kambalda township via Goldfields Highway and Coolgardie – Esperance Highway.
It is located on the southern section of the Widgiemooltha Dome, which is also host to the previously mined Miitel, Mariners, Redross and Wannaway mines. The geology of the Widgiemooltha Dome and the area to the south consists of a thrust repeated sequence of basic and ultramafic extrusives with intercalated sediments and acid volcanics intrusives with nickel sulphide orebodies found at the base of the ultramafic sequence.
Mincor commenced drilling at Cassini in 2014. Since the second half of 2018, drilling activities and successes significantly ramped up with progressive Mineral Resource upgrades. The deposit remains open at depth and down dip.
The mining inventory outlined in the March 2020 DFS involves underground extraction of the Cassini deposit via a box-cut and decline, mining 1.2Mt of ore at an average nickel grade of 3.3% over an initial 5-year period.
