Both McMahon and Durkin Deeps were acquired by Mincor in July 2007 as part of the acquisition of the privately held company, GMM Pty Ltd. The operating Otter-Juan Mine was acquired as part of the same transaction. McMahon, Durkin Deeps and Otter Juan all lie within close proximity to each other and are capable of being operated through a single management structure, creating strong operational synergies.
The Durkin Deeps mineralisation lies down-dip of the previously mined Durkin ore body, which produced 3.15 million tonnes of ore at 3.26% nickel for 102,740 tonnes of nickel metal between 1969 and 1984.
Mincor has estimated a resource of 284,810 tonnes @ 4.6% nickel for 13,160 tonnes of contained nickel metal in Indicated and Inferred Mineral Resources at Durkin Deeps (see above diagram).
Mincor's feasibility study is examining the viability of a mining operation which will access the ore body via a take-off from the existing Otter-Juan decline. A production rate of approximately 2,500 tonnes of nickel metal per annum for an initial period of four years is indicated by the scoping study.
